Twenty-one years of love: the story of our Home

From two children in 2005 to a Home that today cares for 80 — how Holy Mother Elizabeth Redeemed Children’s Home began, and what has kept it going.

Twenty-one years of love: the story of our Home

The story of Holy Mother Elizabeth Redeemed Children’s Home began in 2005, with just two children. On the instruction of His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, the children were to be cared for in a separate place — and from that instruction a Home was born.

Named at the Flag-off of the Holy Mother’s Glorification

On 29 September 2008, at the Flag-off of the Holy Mother’s Glorification, the Home was officially named Holy Mother Elizabeth Redeemed Children’s Home. That same year, Matron Helen Akadu and Mother Glory Francis (Salem) were appointed to care for the children.

Incorporated and governed with care

Registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission began in 2009 and was completed in 2010. The Home is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees chaired by His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, with 144,000 Sis. Onyero Emefile as Vice Chairman, 144,000 Sis. Chimuanya Onyeanula as Secretary, and 144,000 Sis. Helen Akadu and 144,000 Sis. Aduma Asari as members.

Today

Twenty-one years on, the Home supports 80 children in residential care at Enang Ahe Community, Parliamentary Extension, Calabar Municipality. It remains an organ of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, established within its spiritual and administrative framework — and it is still guided by the same simple idea it began with: every child deserves a place where they are loved, protected and given room to grow.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed for, visited and supported the Home along the way.
